let me tell u a little about her first
her name is missy, and she came to live with us about 6wks ago after a hard summer:(
the vet had found her in a local water park with no hair and in a bad way:(
she had no been mated and was dumped, they tried all the hormone treatment but to no avail so while still in season she was spayed (bless her)
because of this she had lost alot weight we started to get her to gain wieght, but she had a case of the runs and all our hard work has gone to pot, we are not sure of her age, the woman we got her from thought she was only this yrs kit but i think she is alot older than that, now i dont want to make her fat but didnt know if there was anything i could give her just to help her maintain her body wieght,
if u have any ideas we would be most greatfull
im prob just a worrying mum, but she means alot to us :)

What food are you currently feeding her? I have found that feeding the Totally Ferret will put on a lot of weight.

First and foremost, what all have you been doing so far to help get her healthy again?
She's likely still suffering from the ill effects of not being mated, and added to that her recent spaying surgery. Have you spoken with a vet to find out what supplements to administer to get her back to a healthy level? If females aren't mated, and aren't spayed - they usually will die from anemia (lack of iron). I would recommend starting a daily regimen of a home made duk soup for her. There are several very good recipes to be found here on this site. Daily Duk Soup, and plenty of kibble and meat-based treats ought to help her gain weight and get her iron levels back to normal.

she's on a complete food vitelin dont think u would get it there, vit spray and uncle jim's duk soup and half a tsp of furovite which i get from state side and ferret bite treats, thats all while she is ill, she is ok in herself just if she gets down loses a bit of wieght and yes she was very ill b4 she was spayed as said she was found in a park with no hair, makes me mad when ppl get a pet and when all the funs gone or it needs medical help they just dump them like trash she was a whole litter from what i know,
its not that she is ill but like u said still getting over her op so her imune system is still low hence the bad belly, the woman i got her from said the vet thinks she was last yrs kit. i think she might b a little older than that,
bless her she has had a rough yr and we just wanna give her the best chance possible, and as i said i dont want to fatten her up just keep her wieght on that she has :)
my other 2 are very good with her they know when to play and when she wants to just wander infact cos the r not caged they offten go lookin for her in her fav sleepin spots and lay with her :) and i think she is the boss realy cos they back off when she says lol:)

This is a little bit of info from one of the books I have:
A Jill typically goes into heat in Febuary and remain in heat through September. This prolonged heat cycle and it's concurrent high levels of estrogen lead to aplastic anemia and septicemia.

This is a little bit of info from one of the books I have:
Quite true JuniorsMommy,In the UK there is an injection called a jill jab, which if given to the jill at the beginning of the breeding season to bring her back out of season, but she may need another before the end of season.I use vasectomised hobs instead to bring my girls out of season, except for Squigley, she wont let a hob near her so she has the jab instead.Vitalin ferret food is excellent,Nightwitch have you tried soaking the food for her in a drop of water and add ferretone.she may not have had a proper diet if she was found wondering, there are people that still feed dead animals to their ferrets in the UK.Perish the thought..........

yes they can die if not mated, of something called "aplastic anemia". so in some ways it is best that females are spayed asap. but not as teeny tiny babies liker marshall farms does. but maybe they are waiting till later now, i don't know.
