my boys and clipping nails

they are getting really good about letting me clip their nails and not squirming, i think the more i mess with their feet the better they get about clipping. it's kind of cute actually the look on their faces trying to figure out what i'm doing to their toes.

i find its real easy if u put some Ferretone on thier bellie's:) they love it so much that they dont care what u r doing :) thats what i do with mine and i get a nice cuddle out of it too :) plus i tend to play with thier feet during any cuddle time that way they get use to me touching them all the time :) same with thier ears:)

i scruff mine..and i do play with thier feet to get them use to it and yes it does get easier after u kno how far to cut them...

Im with Nightwitch. I put the ftone oin their tummies, theyre happy- they dont care what you do- My onlyu problem is the girls like to stick their noses in the clippers every so often just to check up on me I guess. So I have to be extra careful- Can you imagine clipping their nose? OMG!!!!
Anyway- theyer still not used to the teeth brushing thing!!!!!! They dont like me after that job! For awhile anyway.:wave2:

I created an article with photos to show how I clip nails.

**Note: This will look really weird, but I have found this is the easiest way for me to clip nails by myself. I have actually clipped nails at our shelter like this, all 75 ferrets nails in one day.

Wao that was something I scruff mine but not like that becasue I always have the feeling that I'm hurting them... but that is me..:wub:

i scruff mine to but i have a little trouble with the hind toes..well i may try that scruff by mouth and take lax b4 i do it..lol:hahaha:

Im not sure I could do that without worrying about hurting them. besides mine are very squiggley. I like putting furetone on their bellies and clipping that way. Im not in any big rush when I clip, so if it does take a little extra time for whomever, its not a problem for me.

There is no real way for you to hurt them by scruffing with your teeth. Here is why . . . Have you ever seen a ferret grab another ferret by the scruff with their teeth and shake him/her? They have much more pronounced fangs than humans and they don't hurt each other. It's perfectly safe! :)

I actually do this with our kids at times as well. I get their scruff in my front teeth and gently shake them back and forth. I think this has helped to establish me as the alpha ferret more than once!

Now I have seen a couple different people bite horses, but that's the first time I've ever seen one scruff a ferret with their teeth. Makes sense though.
