I have seen these advertised over the past year or so, and I was wondering if anyone knows the ingredients in them, or if anyone has tried them. I haven't because they say the texture is about the same as foam rubber, and the last thing I want is to have my ferret think that foam rubber might taste good; thus leading them to eat anyhting that has that same texture. Anyone have any thoughts on this? :ban:

I agree, I'm afraid that the kiddos would think foam rubber is edible. I've never tried them but here is the ingredient info I found:

Hyper-Fur Foamy Fries are soft, chewy, 100% edible and digestible. They are shaped like traditional French Fries, and have a foam rubber texture ferrets love! Available in Molasses, Garden Herb, Raisin and Spice Flavors. Pack of 6.

Note they do not tell us what the animal protein is....

Molasses Ingredients: Animal Protein, Vegetable Glycerol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Caramel Color.
Garden Herb Ingredients: Animal Protein Vegetable Glycerol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Culinary Herbs.
Raisin Ingredients: Animal Protein, Vegetable Glycerol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Caramel Color.
Spice Ingredients: Animal Protein, Vegetable Glycerol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Spices, Artificial Flavors, Caramel Color.

Guaranteed Analysis: Protein (min) 40%, Fat (min) 0%, Fiber (max) 1%, Moisture (max) 30%.

And a link to the site of the company that makes 'em:

bandit is not getting anywhere near those! not only that, i'm not giving him the marshall chew toys either. he's finally doing well, i'm not messing it up with food that looks to me like it can only cause problems.

Yeah, I do not think it is a good idea either to give them mix messages.

I honestly don't think that there's anything wrong with them, but if a ferret is going to chew foam anyways - its better that he should chew something he can digest - like Hyperfur's Foamy Fries...

I emailed the folks that make Foamy Fries to ask about the source of animal protein listed in the ingredients.

Their response was short but timely: pork & chicken.

Just an FYI about what I found out, I've seen mixed responses about whether or not pork should be fed to our beloved fuzzies. I have not seen anything from a credible source to make me want to offer pork to my ferrets.

The majority of the time- when an ingrdient says chicken- its usually unusable parts that you dont care to know about.:puke:

I realize when we have dogs, the way to a good dog is thru treats-At least thats what were taught.
Nothing seems to bother dogs. Give the dog a bone- and he wont bother for at least 20 min or more. And hes happy-:phone:

This is a bad habit- and certainly cannot be used on FERTS!
There are far too many other ways to let our FERTS know we love them , besides feeding them garbage. They have emotional needs that need to be met.:soother:

All of us here have discussed these things- and maybe some didnt even realize it.

How about climbing in the playpen, especially with a bathrobe, my girls go crazy climbing up and down the arms.
How about taking them for an extra long walk.
How about sitting with each of them for about 20 min before bed time. I call it quiet time.
So many things an be done to bond with our FERTS and let them know how much they are cared for with out garbage food.
And all it takes is a little time that you should be spending with your FERT to begin with. :flowers:
Ferranting is a big job. Its an enjoyable and rewarding job. But it is work and takes effort on YOUR part as a parent. You need to be proactive with your kids.
I say forget all the treat stuff. Most of it is a waste of money.
My girls certainly dont miss it.

farenting is extremely hard and demanding, yet rewarding.

i don't think i would ever recommend ferrets for people who aren't extremely educated on their care. they aren't dogs and cats by any means, and u really need to know what you are doing with them!

and they are a domestic animal...but don't let that fool you...they have needs and requirements that are totally different than dogs and cats.

Lisa, I agree 100% as well.

I do handfeed some TF kibbles, and whip out the duk soup as goodies.

I also, play in the ferret room with them...chase them around (best I can while being carefully of little bouncing fuzzies about me).

One on One snuggle time on the couch with Mommy is a favorite.

We go shopping, where we get to experience new sights & sounds AND educate people on ferrets and their needs.

Here I go again, but I so wish I could take my kids outside.... education is key... hard to do when you can't take them out to show people how they really are.

Sorry BM......

I know someday, Cali will come to it's senses and make it so you too can take your ferrets out on a sightseeing adventure.

Ive gotten pretty good at the Duck Soup Thing- I keep it simple. Chicken, kibble and use the juice left from boiling the chicken.
I add a little ferretvite and oliveoil when Im getting ready to serve. Mine happen to like it better, thin. Yours may like it thicker. Im sure youll go thru a few dishes before you see what they like better. Mommy sees and knows whats best.
Trial and error worked on my human kids- itll work on my fertty kids. (When it comes to Duck Soup anyway)
One more thing. I always stir it again with my pinky before I serve it just to make sure it has completely cooled off enough to give it to them. Dont want them to burn their little noses or tongues.:treats:
