Welcome aboard! Before anyone can answer your question, here's a few more for you to fill in the blanks...
1. How long have you had your ferret?
2. How old is he?
3. How many hours a day does he have out of his cage?
4. Out of that time, how much time is spent one on one with him, uninterrupted?
And one deduction - this is your first ferret ever, correct?

1. about a weak ago.
2. i think he is about 4-5 months maby younger
3. 1 or 2
4. he never wants to play one on one with me or he would spent more time outside of his cage.
You need to have patience, everything in his world is new right now. He needs to be comfortable in his surroundings before he will bond with you.
I would suggest more out of cage time, let him explore. Be right there with him though, even if it means you sit in the middle of his play area while he wanders around. As he becomes familiar/comfortable with his surroundings, he will start to investigate you too and that is when the real fun begins.
Welcome to LF, it's a great forum to learn lots about your new fuzzy friend!

You're sort of in the same boat as we're in. We just got our Boonie a week ago. No kisses yet, and he won't come up to you on his own. That's a baby for you though!
Its going to take time, and alot of patience from you. Bonding doesn't happen overnight for people, much less ferrets. Sasy is right, put yourself INTO his world. Make yourself the center of his universe. Soon, he'll include you and you'll find yourself utterly owned by him.
Any questions, please feel free to ask. We have many experienced ferret owners here, who are willing to help out in any way we can.

Here's a few things I found to help:
Keep showing attention & affection. Consistently holding him and playing with him will also help. Ferretone is a good bribing tool (and treat).. Using a few toys can help too. Don't move around too quick or he may become frightened.:) Also, get down on his level so he can sniff you out too..Good luck and let know how it goes!

Hi,
Sounds like hes being a typical ferret getting used to his new forever home.
First he needs to become accustomed to his new surroundings. ferrets are very curious and are interested in everything. If you make yourself the center of his world, you will become just that. Spend a lot of one on one time with him. At night sit with him just to hold him and pet him. Hell try to get down and get away of course, because curiosity always gets the best of them. Its a little tough at first but youll see he'll settle down and it will become routine. Consistency is the key. Set a routine and follow it religiously. Ferrets are very very smart and catch on quickly.
Be patient and youll see things turn around.
If at anytime you have questions or concerns, just ask. Theres a whole bunch of really great people here, that are more than happy to help out.
Dont forget to post your pics. We love pics!!!!

There's also something else I worry about, when seeing new ferret owners feeling out their place with their first ferret. I hope you've done your homework about ferrets. They aren't the world's easiest creatures to keep. They are however, the world's most endearing.
A forever home is just that, forever. I pray that no matter how much work that keeping a ferret seems to be, that you see the positive side - the side that you can't measure... -A ferret's love and bond to you.

Is a bath really all that important? If he doesn't have poo on him... let it go for awhile! Anything you can do to gain his trust is a good thing!

I agree totally!! The last thing you want to do is frighten him with the dreaded bath.. That's one of those things that they will either love or hate..maybe even just tolerate. If he has a little unpleasant scent then use spritz on him until he's more acclimated in his new home with his new family... :balloon:

Dont worry too much about the bath thing right away- keep his linens clean and his hammy clean- shake them out every day- I hang mine on the deck for about 15-20 min a day- sometimes longer- so they can freshen up. My ferts smell just as fresh as their linens!!!:wave2:

Indra was the same way. He was a rescue and I strongly believe he did not come from a good home. He gives me plenty of kisses now. Hanuman, my newest adoptee, is the opposite as soon as he saw me he was dancing around. I got him yesterday. He's been my shadow but he was different he came from a loving home but his owner did not know how much actually went into being owned by a ferret.
Please be patient the rewards that are shown through there unconditional love more than makes up for it.
