Ferret Lax is a hairball preventative and safe to use. During shedding season 1/2 to 1 tsp. every day is what is recommended. If they are coughing like you would trying to dislodge hair then give it 3 times a day for 5 days straight. Ferrets can not cough up hairballs like cats can if not treated they can cause blockages. The only time it is not recommended to use ferret lax is in ferrets with known and diagnosed insulonoma. Then you will need to ask your ferret knowledgeable vet what to use instead.

When Is Shedding Season Over? I Usually Give It To Them Every Other Day...just Wandering If It Would Hurt Them?they Do Not Show Signs Of Having Furballs.i Just Don't Always Believe What I Read On Products...

What I do is just check them each to see if they are still shedding. I wouldn't give it to them every other day but once a week is good for preventative measures. Since we have 12 all of ours tend to shed at different times so it really isn't a set time of year but usually when the weather starts to warm up and when it starts to cool down in the fall you will see more shedding. Once a week is good for the rest of the year. If I didn't have so many I probably wouldn't have to give it as often as I do. You will also notice that some groom more than others. Watch them since they will be more susceptible to getting hairballs than the rest.

They Are Both Shedding, and They Both Groom Alot.i Change Their Blankets In Their Cage Every Couple Of Days And Wash Their Hamacks, arc, and Other Hanging Beds As Well. Their Cage Get Cleaned Twice A Day.once In The Morning And Once In The Evening.as I Have Read And Heard This Will Help With Prevention Of Hairballs And Smell As Well.

Your a good mom! You are doing everything that is necessary to prevent smell, hairballs and anything else. I wouldn't worry, you seem to have all the bases covered.

I use Marshall.
I have not compared the two yet, though.
So it's best to go with her advice.

Do you give it to them straight, or do you put it in Duck Soup? or how do you give it to them?:helpsmilie:

I give it to them right out of the tube. However I have to "gently force feed" it to my Junior. He has never liked the taste of it and will run away everytime I get it out to give them some.My other 3 kids Love it and can't seem to get enough of it.I usually put some on my finger and let them lick it off.

LOL - don't be silly! You would have made a great decision on your own if we weren't here. They are pretty much the same. Either will work just the same.

Either or is good, especially since the taste is different. I'd switch back and forth, so they'll take either one - just in case you can't find the other for sale when you REALLY need it.

I don't remember off the top of my head what kind of LAX we have at the house. BUT i was afraid when we first gave it to them that they might not like it...HA! they swarmed the tube like it was goin' out of style! they LOOOVE the stuff...crazy

Well , My calamity is picky but will experiment if I put it on my finger. Thats how I got her to eat the Duck Soup.
My Cindy is picky but not to the degree that Calamity is.
But I like Kokodaddys idea too, to give them both. Ill get one bottle of each and go with that.

Thanks :eatingflowers:

I picked up the Marshall ferret lax last nite. I ma going to order more from the ferret store on line, they didnot have it in stock yesterday according to the site.
But anyway, Calamity ran the other way. Cindy dove right in. I guess Calamity decided she was missing something wehn she saw Cindy enjoying it so much, so she just had to climb up my leg and get some.
And man oh man, she couldnt get enough. She practically ate the top off the tube!!!!!

I have been giving it to Belle every day as she seems to like to eat her blankets and I don't want her to get a blockage, is this ok to do

lasher
01-15-2008, 07:32 AM
No... the lax has sugar and it should not be used on a continuous basis. In addition you need to stop her from eating the blankets rather than trying to treat the problem with lax, this may mean removing the blankets all together or providing other sources of enrichment as pica is something that once started young is very hard to correct. In times of stress a ferret that chews fabric will often resort to chewing fabric whenever stressed, I'd suggest searching Bob Church enrichment as he's covered the topic of Pica ferrets a fair bit.
Good luck!

It's like they get fixated on eating something not normal.

bandit gets ferret-lax twice a week. but as lasher said, if your ferret is chewing on blankets, i would REMOVE the blankets asap!!! that kind of habit could cause an impaction that could prove fatal.

i wish i could think of some other solution. is your ferret teething? kits will often chew on cloth. bandit chewed up a nice hammock he had and we gave him marshall chew treats which helped his teething.
