I was just reading in a Google group of a bad experience with the Ferret Octo-Play.

Apparently somebody's ferret got stuck so tightly in a tentacle that the toy had to be cut to get him out.

My boy Jasper got in it then tried to come out one of the Tentacles, and
got it stuck around his waist. He panicked, but let me pick him up with
the Octopus, I then got a pair of scissors and cut the Tentacle off him.
It was too tight to try to slide him out and I was afraid of hurting him
trying. Scissors was the quickest solution.

The exit holes in the Tentacles are too small for most Ferrets. Hence he
got it stuck around his waist.

I've seen this and wanted to get one, since I know our kds would love it. But, just like ANY toy, all toys aren't for everyone. If you have very LARGE ferts, they should probably be surpervised when playing in any sort of tube. If you let a big big guy play in a toy that doesn't fit him or her, him getting stuck is your fault - not the fault of a toy. I don't understand how the ferret got stuck at all... They can easily manipulate their bodies to undulate out of almost any situation. All the owner would have had to do was hold a tentacle straight so the guy could wriggle out. Even Rocket who is HUGE, can get through smaller openings that his body is large. Sounds like ferret parents who weren't keeping an eye on their kids to me...

That said - I'd still buy one...

I have this and thankfully, no problems. My babes love this toy. One other thing to watch for though is if they scratch/dig at it some of the fuzz will shed and you'll want to make sure they don't ingest it. My babies did this a little bit and it wasn't bad, but I just wanted to let you all know.:)

Thanks Ferretmommy... when we get ours, we will be sure to watch for the fuzz...

A video of some fuzzies having fun with the octopus.

The general consesus is that the octopus is a good toy, just needs a little supervision like everything else in a ferret's world. :D

Hi Janet, they sure look like they are enjoying themselves, but I best not get one, cause my Clyde is over 3 pounds and my luck he would get stuck in it, don't want to take the chance, really enjoyed the video!!!!!

I have this too, and have no problems. To get stuck, I'd say that had to be one BIG ferret. I'm sorry the poor fella had to go through that, but my kiddos zip right through just fine.

I think they like the toy more to pounce on anyway, but hey it's their toy let them play with it how they please!
