looks like pet partners has greatly expanded their ferret line of supplies. not only do they have totally ferret for adult active ferrets, they also sell this chicken flavored canned food from 8 in 1. i couldn't resist getting a can of it and gave bandit a small amount with his kibble. he showed absolutely no interest whatsoever. of course, he was very involved in exploring the new ferret nation cage, and didn't much feel like eating.

i wonder if he will eat it? it will add more variety to his diet if he does. the product is supposed to contain added ferretone. i'll let u know if he eats it. we're still ordering the totally ferret chicken nugget treats, maybe he will find those more appealing?

I don't know one ferret who will eat that canned food. Please let me know if he does. Be careful of how often you give Bandit different foods as it will make his poopie a little loose.

I had been looking at that. But my guys are pretty funny about trying new stuff. I give my guys the moist food from 8-1 as a treat in the morning and they really like that. When I get up for work and let them out they follow me around until I get the bag and sit down on the floor with them. Then they crawl all over me wanting their tasty tidbits.

bandit didn't touch the canned food. so i dumped it out, cleaned his bowl, and replaced the food with his marshall TF mix, which he gobbled down. maybe he'll like those chicken bits, which we just placed an order for at ferret depot.

he really doesn't like that canned food at all. i think i'll feed it to chuk, so it won't go to waste.

Our kids won't touch that canned stuff either... We've thrown out a couple of cans trying in the past (especially when Minky was being force fed after surgery).

Ive heard stories of the canned food (soft food) . I understood it really wasnt recommended for a few reasons. First most ferts will get yucky butt, second its really not good for gums and teeth. Ferts are more prone to gingevitus when eating the soft food. :reader:
The only soft food mine get is Duck Soup- I give it to them a couple of time a week.:flowers:
Other than that its the dry food. I have no problems or worries with that.:pals:

I've seen the canned food, but not tried it before. After seeing everyones experiences with their ferret's reactions to it I don't think I'll bother. I know mine have eaten the Hills A/D canned stuff from the vet. I got some when Puji was sick to try to keep her eating. We had some left over after she passed that we mixed into our duck soup. Loved it!

When Ordered my fert food, I came across this! 8 in 1 Canned Ferret Diet, Does anyone have a review on this? I thought Cassie might like like a little teaspoon full a day, not the whole can...I didn't Order yet, so any quick reviews would be great!

Haven't tried but I don't we will now. Staunk and Ferreto are relatively picky eaters. They really won't touch meat, cooked or raw. :(

Maybe a shelter can use the unopened cans. Im sure they have an ill fert, in which case it can be used in a soupie recipe or somehting.:ferret:

Hey Ferret Aid will take them. :)
I found with all my kids it took a couple introductions just like any other food but since Wet foods are actually better for teeth in the long run than kibbles I try to encourage my foster ferrets to eat at least some wet food (whether it be this one of the Hills brands). My own ferrets get this once in a while as a treat but it's hard to find here (they eat mainly raw with kibble avail.).
So if you have cans and want to mail them out to help out a shelter let me know. Ferret Aid can use them, plus every single ferret in shelter is adrenal so we've got a mess of kids going in for surgeries as soon as we can arrange/afford it. Soup and soft foods are going to be on the menu for awhile now.

wow, my ferret Jeffy hates it and Cash won't even go near it but Cash ate it, guess he just didn't care lol. :P I only bought it once though, it took him a while to eat it...like three days and I ended up throwing the rest away.

I'll have to look for this in our pet store. IMO Phil, what's the difference in a canned food and a resealable bag food? I'm sure they taste the same.... like crap! LOL

probably. the only reason ferrets like those bandit treats is that they taste good because they are loaded with sugar. we haven't given bandit any sugary sweet products since i heard they were not good for ferrets here on LF.

I've seen those in the stores and have been tempted to try them too. My ferts are picky eaters so I'm cautious about what I get. I'm still working on Ivan to get him to eat soupie.

Thanks JM. I was thinking it was more like gravy and food in a bag. So it's just soft kibble, for the lack of a better word? Something for like seniors to eat if they have a hard time eating hard food.

Mine hate that stuff too. My mother bought me like 4 cans of it while she was at Petco, I try to have them lick it off my finger, and see if MAYBE if they give it a chance they would like it but no, they won't even give it a chance.

I was just curios if anyone has tried the 8 and 1 canned ferret food? I saw it recently when I went into the pet store and thought about getting some for the fuzzbutts.

Personally, I would not use it. There are so many other things like the Pingsford Porridge that is so nutrious. I am not a fan of 8 in 1.

I used the 8 in 1 canned in Ellie's soupie. She also ate it plain out of the can. I'd never use it on a regular basis but with Ellie I was trying anything and everything to get her to eat.

All of mine (except Ivan who won't eat anything but kibble) prefer Pingford's Porridge and/or Carnivore Care. I occassionally will mix in some canned food with their soupie but not regularly. It's costly and I can get the same effect from the PP (imo better results!).

My 'zuuls think the canned 8 in 1 is...:censored: for lack of better terminology. I tried them on a can the other day and it was one sniff, and run as fast as you can in the other direction. Hey, the cats wouldn't even eat it.

My parents bought the stuff once when Prince was still alive and healthy and they gave me the same look TimmysMom's ferrets gave her. I tried to get my cat, Spirit,
the stuff and she gave me the look that said, "Get that :censored: can of crap away from me or I'll claw your face off!" And the wierd thing is, Spirit will eat anything even the dog's and ferret's food!!!
